The Titanic – A Night to Remember.

Ask anyone to name a ship and there’s a fair chance it will be that vessel which left on its maiden voyage in April1912, struck an iceberg and sank with great loss of life.   Why this tragedy holds so much fascination it is hard to say.   We do know that at least four movies have been made concerning what happened on that night.

I’ve seen three of these movies.  And apparently Nazi Germany produced a fourth for propaganda purposes during World War Two.  At least that’s what I’m told.   Then we have the dozens, possibly hundreds of books, both factual and fictional which portray what happened.

Yes, the Titanic disaster was indeed a night to remember and remember it we will on the eve of its Centenary.   An event is to be held to commemorate it.  Where?  When?  How?  you might be asking?

Where: A the Blacktown Workers Club,  55, Campbell Street, Blacktown 2148
When: 6-00pm for 6-30pm
How: An evening of entertainment with a scrumptious three-course dinner, a master storyteller, bush poet, and music to suit the occasion.
It will be voluntary ‘dress up for the period’ so we’re could well see a few Colonel J.J. Astors and Lady Cosmo Duff-Gordons among our first class passengers.  And maybe even a Captain Edward J. Smith or two.

Did you see the 1998 version of this epic happening?    If you didn’t, then get the DVD or go and see the movie.   You’ll enjoy it.    But make no mistake about it, seeing it is one thing, creating the story in your own mind as a master storyteller evokes those scenes in your own imagination is something else again.
So come along.   You’ll enjoy yourself.  And bear this in mind:  It’ll be another hundred years before such a happening occurs again.
